Unlike the glutinous rice-scented green tea from Yunnan (which directly incorporates glutinous rice-scented broken leaves), this glutinous rice-scented oolong is made using the Jin Xuan variety introduced from Taiwan. During the rolling process, fresh glutinous rice-scented leaves are promptly dried to lock in the distinctive aroma.
Mae Salong in Chiang Rai Province, Northern Thailand, is a major tea-growing area, where Chinese settlers have introduced Taiwanese tea tree varieties and machinery since the last century, adapting to local conditions.
